AmpreyTM

The Swiss Army Knife of Mine Water Treatment

Amprey-banner-img

Amprey™ is a compact, reliable, and efficient up-flow electrochemical cell that treats mine-impacted water, regardless of water conductivity. Unlike traditional lime or biological treatments that fail as temperatures approach freezing, Amprey’s patented technology operates in all temperatures and at any scale.

By converting dissolved metals into a small, non-leachable (TCLP) solid cake, Amprey™ safely manages contaminants without generating hazardous waste.

For example, waterStrider’s breakthrough Amprey™ technology effectively reduces dissolved selenium from 116 ppb to just 0.42 ppb—well below both BC Water Quality Guidelines (2.0 ppb) and US EPA limits (1.5 ppb for still water, 3.1 ppb for moving water).

Electrochemistry for water treatment - how it works:

blue-waterDroplets

Consumable metal anode particles fill the spaces between titanium rod electrodes in the Amprey cell

Water flows up through the Amprey cell, flushing solids and gases from the cell

Electric current flows through the metal anode particles that are between the electrodes, accelerating anode particle dissolution

Hydrolysis produces hydroxide, raising pH

Dissolved anode metal ions scavenge oxygen, causing:
• Reducing conditions
• Co-precipitation of some contaminants
• Coagulation of solids

Amprey removes a wide range of dissolved metals, as well as nitrate and sulphate, to deliver sustainable mine water treatment with significantly lower capital and operating costs.
