waterStrider Performance for Mine Remediation
Giant Mine

Problem: Arsenic-containing dust has contaminated soil and water at the former mine site. The current treatment approach involves permanently freezing dewatered arsenic solids, a costly solution.
Solution: waterStrider offers a cost-effective way to remove arsenic from soil and water, transforming it into a chemically stable, non-leachable waste solid. A simple water wash of arsenic-contaminated soil produced non-leachable material, making it safe for return to the site.
waterStrider’s technologies removed 99.6% of dissolved arsenic from the wash water. The resulting solid waste by-product was easily dewatered and non-leachable, eliminating the risk of arsenic toxicity to the environment.

Problem: Even after mining at Faro Mine has stopped, acid mine drainage continues to produce massive volumes of highly acidic water contaminated with toxic levels of zinc and lead. Treating this water with lime is extremely costly, generates large volumes of lime-metal sludge for disposal, and requires hazardous acids to neutralize the treated water.
